Mayfair Laboratory School was established in 2013 through a unique collaboration between the East Baton Rouge School System and the University Laboratory School (ULS) at Louisiana State University (LSU). Initially serving grades K-3, the school expanded by adding one grade each year until reaching 8th grade in 2019.

This partnership arose to explore whether a laboratory school model could thrive in a public school setting. University Lab School has long been one of the highest-performing schools in the state, and Mayfair Lab has since demonstrated comparable excellence by consistently earning an A rating every year since its inception.

Following the organizational and instructional model of University Lab School, Mayfair Lab emphasizes rigorous academics that enable students to achieve at their highest potential. In grades K-3, each classroom is led by two educators: a lead instructor with a master's degree and an associate teacher with at least a bachelor's degree. For grades 4-5, there are two instructors and one associate per grade level. This dual-teacher model in the elementary years allows for tailored instruction, including targeted intervention and accelerated learning.

With this strong foundation, our students transition into middle school ready for challenging coursework, with opportunities to explore their interests and earn high school credits.

OUR EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

At the heart of our educational philosophy, we believe that learning is most effective when it is experiential.  By immersing students in real-world experiences, academic content and skills gain purpose and relevance. Our approach is centered on creating dynamic learning environments that not only foster curiosity but also empower students to explore their passions and interests.

Our curriculum is designed to integrate academic concepts with tangible experiences. Whether it's through field trips, hands-on projects, simulations, or community engagement initiatives, students are encouraged to actively participate in their learning. By directly engaging with the world around them, they not only deepen their understanding of academic subjects but also develop crucial life skills such as critical thinking, communication, creativity, and collaboration.

Central to our philosophy is the belief that education should inspire and empower students to become proactive agents of change in our global society. We recognize the interconnectedness of today's world and aim to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to navigate and positively impact it. Through exposure to diverse perspectives, cultures, and issues, students gain a broader understanding of the world and their place within it.

Ultimately, our goal is to cultivate empowered global citizens who are not only academically proficient but also compassionate, empathetic, and socially responsible. We believe that by instilling a love for learning and a sense of purpose, we can inspire students to make meaningful contributions to their communities and the world at large. Through experiential learning, we strive to unlock the full potential of every student and empower them to be the change-makers of tomorrow.
